What is the Kansas Cooperative Council?

The mission of the Kansas Cooperative Council is to promote the cooperative philosophy through marketing and educational efforts and to identify and positively impact issues influenced by governmental agencies and other entities.

The Kansas Cooperative Council was formed in 1944. The Council seeks to promote, support and advance the interests, business success and understanding of agricultural, utility, credit and consumer cooperatives and their members through legislation and regulatory efforts, education, and public relations.
 
The Council’s major functions are:
Legislative and policy information
Education
Communication
Public relations

The Council’s membership includes

local farm supply/marketing cooperatives
rural electric cooperatives
telephone cooperatives
credit unions
farm credit bank
regional cooperatives
associate members
individual members.

What is a cooperative?

A cooperative is a form of business that is voluntarily owned and controlled by its users. It is operated for them on a cost basis. Examples of cooperative businesses are: farm supply, financial, purchasing, health, consumer, day care, housing, insurance and many other types of businesses. There are over 70 million people that belong to some form of cooperative in the United States.
